[ARCHIVED] Council Changes Take Effect

Town Council

Trophy Club, TX (May 14, 2019) – The Spring May General and Specials elections have come and gone in Trophy Club and with them comes some new faces to serve along with the familiar ones.  The General Elections were robust with two-term expirations up and one left open from a previous vacancy.

First, Place 5 reached its term expiration cycle, realizing the end of Mr. Greg Lamont’s time on the current Town Council.  Mr. Lamont was honored for his service as an elected official and as a volunteer on various boards, commissions and committees during the May 14, 2019, Town Council Meeting.  Mr. Lamont has served on the council from 2013 to 2019.  During his tenure, Mr. Lamont served as the Mayor Pro Tem for 3 years (2014 to 2017) and on the initial Budget Committee.  Mr. Lamont is a current member on the Metroport Cities Partnership and is a past member of Keep 35W Moving Forward, Membership Committee as well as having served as a President of The Lakes of Trophy Club.  “While I am proud of the many accomplishments of the Council that I served on, I am especially proud that we were able to reduce the tax rate for all of the six years I served on Council and that we saved the Town nearly 30 million dollars on 2 items for the PID rate reduction and the revised Town Hall facility,” Mr. Lamont stated.

Geraci Swear InFilling the seat of Place 5 will be newcomer, Mr. Michael Geraci.  The Geraci family has lived in Trophy Club for 4 years and has two children, Haylie (12) and Brennan (9) who are students at Medlin and Beck.  Councilman Geraci has been in the Corporate Real Estate, Construction, and Consulting industry for over 20 years with his duties focused on strategic goals, partnerships, and contract reviews. In addition, Councilman Geraci, having felt the call of the country following 9/11, took a Military Leave of Absence where he enlisted in the Army/Texas Army National Guard, serving almost nine years.  “I believe it is our duty as citizens to serve and that is why I ran for Town Council,” stated Councilman Geraci, “I look forward to doing my part to continue to make Trophy Club a great place to live.”

Shoffner Swear InThe next seat that was open to be filled was that of Place 6, which had been previously held by Mr. Philip Shoffner.  Similar to Mr. Lamont, Councilman Shoffner has served on Trophy Club Town Council for many years (2014 - current) as well as has served on many boards, commissions, and committees. Councilman Shoffner has focused his priorities on enhancing both Town facilities and personnel, adding amenities’ to parks throughout the community, ensuring safety and security in all aspects of the NISD landscapes and ensuring financial stability in every area to achieve resident transparency.  Councilman Shoffner says he “is looking forward to serving his next term with the best interest of the many residents of Trophy Club diligently and with great fever.”

Town Council - Rhylan Rowe Thank YouThe last seat that was on the May ballot by way of the Special Election was that of Place 3.  The Council position was vacated in January and left to be filled during the May elections per direction from Town Council.  Mr. Rhylan Rowe was present at the Council Meeting May 14, where he was honored for his time as a sitting Council Member.  Mr. Rowe noted the accomplishment that he is most proud of over the course of his time on Council was “getting to know so many great residents who volunteered to serve on boards and commissions, many of whom wouldn’t have otherwise had an interest in local government.” Mr. Rowe added that “the most challenging aspect of serving on Council is maintaining the patience required to solve a problem for a resident within the structure and processes that the Council must operate under.”

Councilman Eric Jensen stated, “It’s been a pleasure working on Council with Rhylan Rowe the past 2 years. He worked very hard in the support of small government and landowner rights. His passion and ability to give context to decisions will be missed.”

Town Council - Sean Bone Swear InPlace 3 will see Mr. Sean Bone take the chair as the newly elected official.  Councilman Bone has served on Trophy Club’s Economic Development Corporation (EDC) 4B for several years.  Councilman Bones’ primary focus is to further the momentum the current Town Council has created with PD-25 (Trophy Wood Development). “Residential New Construction is near build out and Increasing Sales Tax Revenue with high-quality restaurants and retail to make Trophy Club a destination is critical in maintaining a low city tax rate”, Councilman Bone stated.  Having worked in Finance for nearly 20 years and as a mortgage loan officer for 15 years, Councilman Bone and his family of 5 have enjoyed solving problems and figuring out the best way to make things work for others.  “My interest is to serve others, not my own interests” Bone said.

Town Council - Greg Lamont Thank You“Over the years both Greg and Rhylan were invaluable as we worked through finding a location and building our Town Hall,” stated Mayor Sanders. “In addition, their input related to trying to make Trophy Club Town Center (PD30) meet our citizen's goals and be successful helped guide a unified Council. Being fiscally conservative Council Members helped lower the Town's tax rate year after year.”

With the May 14, 2019, Town Council meeting, the abovementioned changes have become official and the Town of Trophy Club will continue with business as usual.  “With seasons of change come opportunities to excel and that is what Trophy Club is looking to do with the direction of dedicated leaders at the helm,” stated Jonathan Phillips, Interim Town Manager.

Councilman Jensen added, “Congratulations to Philip Shoffner, Sean Bone and Michael Geraci on winning their elections.  With two new members come new ideas and I look forward to hearing their input.”

The next non-electoral areas for engagement include the Trophy Club boards and commissions positions.  These important committees are comprised of resident volunteers who advise the Town on current issues and assist the Council in policy development and administration of services. Members of a board or commission must be a resident and a qualified voter of the Town of Trophy Club at the time of his or her appointment.

Councilwoman Alicia Fleury added, " Service above self is rewarding in so many ways.  I invite our residents to join us in working with each other, our businesses, our schools and with our staff and elected officials to make Trophy Club the best it can be."

The Town is accepting applications for various positions, if you are interested in joining the Town leadership, please join a Board or Commission where you will be a crucial part of Trophy Club.  For more information about applying for a board or commission position, please click here.
