[ARCHIVED] Changes Takes Shape at the Dais

DaisChange

Trophy Club, TX (May 16, 2022) – The May Election has come and gone in Trophy Club, and with it comes change to the Council dais. The May Election proved tough with many items on the ballot, including NISD and TC MUD No. 1 seats as well as proposition reauthorizations for CCPD and Streets. One of the many noteworthy focuses on the ballot were the Town Council positions for Place 5 and 6.

CM Oldman B Web 22First, Place 5 found the unopposed candidacy of Mrs. LuAnne Oldham. Oldham had taken her position in Place 5 during the November 2021 election. Oldham had run unopposed in the Fall, having taken on the partial term of Place 5 after Councilman Geraci left.

CM Oldham got right to work and quickly became an integral part of the Council leadership group. Oldham set her priorities on Capital Improvements Projects that would address drainage and flooding issues experienced by residents. Oldham also is interested in prioritizing the parks and green space areas in town, with her goal of making improvements, upgrades and having a balanced maintenance plan for them.

With her term being partial, Oldham knew she needed more time to dig in and get work done, so the decision to run again was made. Again, she ran unopposed for the May election, and on May 07, 2022, CM Oldham was reelected for a full Council term. CM Oldham is knowledgeable in how Town Council has operated previously and is committed to offering her voice to represent and protect the interests of individuals, organizations, families, and businesses in TC.

“The community already has a solid Town Council with the potential to become stronger as we move forward,” stated CM Oldham.” Trophy Club is a jewel that deserves the best of elected officials in experience and leadership. I will continue to serve by responding to and representing our citizens with integrity and professionalism.”

Council_Shoffner_PhilipNewNext, the time has come to say a sad farewell to a dedicated Town Council leader, CM Philip Shoffner. CM Shoffner has served on Town Council for a total of 3,104 days / 8 years, 6 months / 102 months, 1 day in total (November 18, 2013 – May 18, 2022). Shoffner has reached his term expiration cycle, realizing the end of his time on the dais. CM Shoffner will be honored for his commitment as an elected official and as a volunteer on various boards, commissions, and committees at the May 18, 2022, Town Council Meeting.

“Philip’s contributions to Council are innumerable, and his penchant for research and knowledge of Town history is unmatched,” said Mayor Alicia Fleury.” He was an asset to our citizens and will be greatly missed.”

During his tenure, CM Shoffner served as the Mayor Pro Tem for three years (2018-2020) and on committees including; Budget Committee, Finance Subcommittee, and Art Subcommittee (just to name a few). Shoffner has focused his priorities over the years on various efforts, including enhancing Town facilities and personnel, adding amenities’ to parks throughout the community, ensuring safety and security in all aspects of the NISD landscapes, and ensuring financial stability in every area to achieve resident transparency.

“My goal has always been to leave Trophy Club better than when I found it the day I was first elected,” said CM Shoffner. “That has not changed! There is still more to accomplish to keep Trophy Club the great place we all love!”

CM Shoffner was a great asset to Town Council, and his knowledge and expertise will be greatly missed. With CM Shoffner’s departure, the Place 6 Town Council seat was open, and two candidates ran for the coveted position. Ultimately, Mr. Steve Flynn obtained the spot and will be sworn in at the May 18, 2022, Town Council Meeting.

Flynn 2 copyCM Flynn has spent the last four years serving on the Trophy Club Municipal Utility District No. 1(TC MUD No.1) board, taking on the role of President for the last two. During his time on the MUD Board, Flynn’s accomplishments included; selecting a new General Manager, transitioning the District to a “maintain and replace” infrastructure system, developing a new water and wastewater rate study, and implementing a risk and resiliency assessment plan. Flynn has also served on the Town’s boards and commissions as a member of the Trophy Club’s Economic Development Corporation 4B.

As a member of the Town Council, CM Flynn is committed to building and enhancing the Town’s Strategic Plan. A focus area for him is developing a long-term infrastructure strategy by working with and strengthening the partnership between the Municipal Utility District and the Town. Additionally, Flynn would like to continue the work being done to support the local business community in not only promoting the existing establishments but attracting opportunities for new ventures as well.

“We have lived in many places across the country, thanks to a very active career with General Motors,” said Councilman Flynn. “Once we moved to Trophy Club, we knew we had found our retirement home. And like the old saying says, ‘home is where the heart is,’ Trophy Club is a great place to call home.”

With the May 18th Town Council Meeting ahead, the abovementioned changes will become official, and the Town of Trophy Club will continue with business as usual.  “With seasons of change come opportunities to excel, which is what Trophy Club is looking to do with the direction of dedicated leaders like these at the helm,” said Town Manager Wade Carroll.
