Trophy Club, TX (January 13, 2022) – Recently, Kevin O’Dell received a special On the Spot Award for the Community Development Department for his display of the Town’s core value, Teamwork.
Never one to shy away from helping other team members or departments, O’Dell graciously assisted the Parks & Recreation Department by offering to inspect their irrigation back flow devices. This initiative consisted of inspecting just under seventy (70) devices which included the completion and submittal of a full third-party report for filing purposes.
O’Dell was able to adjust his current workload and adapt his schedule to ensure there was capacity to take on this initiative. In assisting the Parks & Recreation Department with these in-house inspections, O’Dell saved the Town approximately $6,000 is contracted costs.
“If we’re shorthanded, or I see a need somewhere I can help with,” O’Dell said “I am happy to jump in. It’s personally very gratifying to help other departments when I can. I Iike the challenge“.
O’Dell started with the Town of Trophy Club in August 2016 and during his time with the Town he has been promoted from Crew Leader to Streets Supervisor to Streets Superintendent in the Community Development Department.
“Kevin is always working to promote a positive and productive work atmosphere for our team,” Matt Cox, Director of the Community Development Department said. “He works tirelessly to make sure things are running smoothly and that the work is getting done”.
O’Dell and his team maintain and repair all streets, sidewalks, and drainage areas within the Town right of way. They install and maintain traffic signs and controls, conduct construction inspections for new and rehabilitated infrastructure including paving roadways, paving sidewalks, and drainage installation.
He also investigates and manages customers concerns and drainage requests, as well as schedules and oversees in-house, routine and emergency maintenance projects. O’Dell conducts stormwater inspections on all constructions sites and verifies compliance.
He and his team respond to after hour emergencies such as treatment of roads and bridges in winter months, road obstructions such as downed trees, and flooding of Trophy Club streets.
O’Dell has roughly 16 years of experience in municipal government experience specifically in the street maintenance specialty area. Previously he worked for both the City of Denton and the City of Bedford before continuing his career in Trophy Club.
Outside of dedicating himself to the Town, O’Dell has been married to his be-loved wife Rachel for 13 years and together they have three children, Jason (16), Gerald (10), and Genesis (6).
O’Dell has also served in the United Stated Army for twelve (12) years and is currently in the United States Army Reserves serving as an E6 Staff Sargent. When he is not working one of his three jobs (Town, Army, Family) O’Dell is an avid football fan and plays drums for a local rock band, Mirror Mirror.
“Kevin embodies our values of teamwork, service and integrity” said Town Manager Wade Carroll. “He is a great example for other employees to follow and I know his family is as proud of him as we are”.
