Trophy Club, TX (August 24, 2021) – Trophy Club Town Councilmembers Gregory Wilson (Place 2) and Michael Geraci (Place 5) have both resigned from Town Council effective immediately. As a result of the resignations, a Special Election has been called for November 02, 2021.

Place 2

In a letter to Mayor Alicia Fleury and the rest of the Town Council, Councilmember Wilson shared that he is resigning his Place 2 Town Council seat. Councilman Wilson has accepted a new job opportunity in Boston which will require him and is family to relocate.

Wilson stated that it has been a “pleasure to serve with such a great group of dedicated public servants and wonderful staff over the past year. Leaving the council at this time was one of a number of things that made the decision to accept this position one of the most difficult I have ever made.”

Councilman Wilson leaves a long legacy of public service with the Town. He has served in a variety of capacities previously including having served as both the Director and President of the Trophy Club Municipal Utility District #1, as the President of Trophy Club’s Economic Development Corporation (EDC4B) and as a former member of the EDC 4A. Councilman Wilson ran unopposed and was elected in November 2020 to Place 2 on Town Council and has served the community for nearly a year, his term will expire in May 2023. Wilson and his family have lived in Trophy Club since 2011.

Mayor Fleury said Wilsons’ resignation is ”bittersweet” also saying, “while I’m happy for his amazing new opportunity, I’m sad to see him leave Trophy Club”. She also stated, “this Council has incredible momentum, and a general respect for each other”. Mayor Fleury commended Councilman Wilson for his leadership saying, “Greg is a great example of leading with a cool head and a kind heart, putting the community above political pettiness.”

Place 5

Separately, Councilman Geraci regretfully informed Mayor Fleury and Town Council that due to his current work travel commitments and family obligations, he is unable continue his time at the dais.

Town Manager Wade Carroll said, “Councilman Geraci is a servant at heart. Whether on the battlefield after 9/11, through his service to our town on Town Council or just being a husband and father, Michael puts others before himself. We were fortunate to have him on Council and his family will be fortunate to have more time with him now that he has resigned.”

Councilman Geraci currently works as a Regional Portfolio Manager having previously been in the Corporate Real Estate, Construction, and Consulting industry for over 25 years with his duties focused on strategic goals, partnerships, and contract reviews. In addition, Councilman Geraci, felt the call of the country following 9/11, took a Military Leave of Absence where he joined the military, serving almost nine years. Councilman Geraci ran unopposed and was elected in May 2019 to Place 5 on Town Council and has served the community for two and a half years, his term will expire in May 2022.

“I believe it is our duty as citizens to serve and that’s why I volunteered to serve our country overseas after September 11 and it’s also why I wanted to serve my community here in Trophy Club,” stated Councilman Geraci, “I have enjoyed my time on Council and I’m glad that I have been able to give back to the Town. I will continue to volunteer with various youth activities, participate in TC programs with my family, and look forward to serving the community again in the future.”  Councilman Geraci’s family have lived in Trophy Club for 5 years and he has two children.

Town Manger Carroll went on to say “I am thankful that both of these men timed their resignations not to trigger a standalone election for the Town that would have cost the Town $20-30K.  I hope the best for both of these men as they move to a new season in their lives.  I doubt that volunteer service will ever be completely out of their hearts.”

Next steps

The next steps for the election of a Councilmember for Place 2 and Place 5 included the calling of a special election by the Town Council, which took place during the August 24th meeting after Council accepted both resignations. The election will take place November 02, 2021, with the new Place 2 and Place 5 members sworn in soon after.

The filing period for candidates will be weekdays, 8 AM – 5PM, August 25th – September 1st, 2021. The voter registration deadline in Texas for the November 02 election is October 04, 2021. If your application is not received by the Voter Registrar’s Office or postmarked at least 30 days before the November election, you will not be eligible to vote in this election. The early voting period leading up to election day will be October 18th – 29th, 2021. Please check www.trophyclub.org/elections for more voting time and location information as it becomes available.
