[ARCHIVED] TCPD Recognized for Best Practices

TCPD Best Practice 2

Trophy Club, TX, June 15, 2021 -  The Trophy Club Police Department has been notified it has achieved "Re-Recognition Status" for compliance with the Texas Law Enforcement Agency Best Practices Recognition Program. These Best Practices cover all aspects of law enforcement operations including use of force, protection of citizen rights, vehicle pursuits, property and evidence management, and patrol and investigative operations.

The Law Enforcement Recognition Program is a voluntary process where police agencies in Texas prove their compliance with 166 Texas Law Enforcement Best Practices. These Best Practices were carefully developed by Texas Law Enforcement professionals to assist agencies in the efficient and effective delivery of service, the reduction of risk and the protection of individual’s rights.

While similar in nature to the national accreditation program, the Best Practices Recognition Program is easier to administer, lower in cost and is designed specifically for Texas Law Enforcement. The Texas Legislature demands a great deal of professional law enforcement in Texas and the Best Practices were specifically designed to aid Texas agencies in meeting those demands and providing the best quality of service to the people of our State.

Since its inception in 2006, over 100 Texas Law Enforcement Agencies have been Recognized and many more are currently in the process to become Recognized Agencies. While members of the Texas Police Chiefs Association recognizes and supports the national accreditation program, The Texas Best Practices Recognition Program has clearly become the new Gold Standard for Texas Law Enforcement!

The Trophy Club Police Department was originally recognized by the Texas Police Chiefs Association Law Enforcement Recognition Program in February of 2017. Police agencies recognized by the TPCA must undergo an onsite inspection every 4th year and this makes the second successful onsite inspection by the Trophy Club Police Department.

"The Trophy Club Police Department has always considered itself to be one of the best in the State of Texas," said Police Chief Patrick Arata. "This process provided us an independent review of our department’s operations and should assure our citizens that their Police Department is conforming to the current state of the art in law enforcement."

This voluntary process required the Trophy Club Police Department to conduct a critical self-review of the agency’s policies, procedures, facilities and operations. Beginning in January 2021, the department began the lengthy process to achieve “Re-Recognized Status” by preparing proofs of compliance for each of the Texas Law Enforcement Best Business Practices. Upon completion of the internal review, an outside audit and review was requested. This final two day on-site review took place June 2 - 3, 2021 where an audit and review of over 170 items, including department policies and procedures was done. The on-site review was conducted by trained Police Chiefs from other areas of our state. The result of this review was then sent to the Texas Police Chiefs Association’s Recognition Committee for final analysis and decision to award “Re-Recognized” status.

"The Trophy Club Police Department is to be commended for the commitment made to this process. Every employee of the agency can be proud of this accomplishment,” said Scott Rubin, Chairman TPCAF Recognition Program Committee.

Town Council will be honoring the Trophy Club Police Department at an upcoming Town Council meeting in honor of their designation. The actual presentation of the award will take place at the TPCA Annual Conference in 2022.

"Please help me congratulate Chief Arata and his team when you see them out and about," stated Interim Town Manager Wade Carroll.  "This may be routine here in TC but nationally it is rare to this type of accomplishment received so consistently."
