[ARCHIVED] Town Council Dais Takes Change Again Following May Election Cycle

Town Council Dais

Trophy Club, TX (May 11, 2021) – The May General election has come and gone in Trophy Club and with it comes a new face to serve along with a familiar one.

The election was poised to be an interesting one with two-term expirations, however, at the February 23 Town Council meeting, the Town's part of the May election was canceled as neither of the two council seats were contested.

Declared elected to three-year terms was incumbent Karl Monger, Place 4 and political veteran (P&Z Board and Charter Review Commission member) Dennis Sheridan, Place 3. Sheridan replaces Sean Bone, who didn’t seek re-election.

Councilman Monger (having served since Nov 2019) is the Founder and Executive Director of GallantFew, Inc., a nonprofit helping military veteran’s transition from active duty to civilian lives of hope and purpose. He is a retired US Army Major who served in Infantry and Ranger assignments. He is an author, award winning video producer, and certified Burris Functional Emotional FitnessTM practitioner.  He has lived in Trophy Club since 2013 and has been a volunteer on the Trophy Club Crime Control and Prevention District Board since 2018. He is married to his lovely wife Sara and has two daughters, two grandsons and two dogs.

Councilman Monger said “It's an honor to continue to serve the residents of Trophy Club. Thank you for your trust and confidence. I look forward to continuing to work with all residents to keep Trophy Club a great place to call home”.

“It’s been an absolute pleasure serving alongside Councilmember Monger and I look forward to continuing our good work, Karl truly has a servant’s heart,” said Mayor Alicia Fleury.

Place 3 reached its term expiration cycle, realizing the end of Mr. Sean Bone’s time on the Town Council. Mr. Bone was honored for his service as an elected official and as a volunteer on various boards, commissions and committees including Trophy Club’s Economic Development Corporation (EDC) 4B for several years. Mr. Bone has served on the council from 2019 to 2021. Mr. Bones’ primary focus while on Council has been to further the momentum the Town Council had created with PD-25 (Trophy Wood Development).

“Residential New Construction is near build out and Increasing Sales Tax Revenue with high-quality restaurants and retail to make Trophy Club a destination is critical in maintaining a low city tax rate”, Mr. Bone has stated. Having worked in Finance for nearly 20 years and as a mortgage loan officer for 15 years, Mr. Bone and his family of 5 have enjoyed solving problems and figuring out the best way to make things work for others. “My interest is and will always be how to best serve others, not my own interests” Bone said.

The Mayor went on to say “I’d like to thank CM Bone for his service on Council, as well as his time with EDC. I’m sure he’ll continue to serve our community. I will miss Sean’s wonderful sense of humor, we could always count on him for laughs and levity!”

Filling the seat of Place 3 will be Mr. Dennis Sheridan. Councilman Sheridan is a 24-year resident of Trophy Club and has served in the US Army having risen from the rank of 2nd Lieutenant to Captain in 1972 when he retired his commanding position. During his time in the Army, Captain Sheridan received many military awards including Combat Infantry Badge, Army Commendation Medal, Bronze Star with V Device, and Bronze Star with Oak Leaf.

Councilman Sheridan has dutifully served Trophy Club as Commissioner on the Planning and Zoning Commission for 18 years, in addition to chairing the Charter Review Commission. Councilman Sheridan is a former volunteer for the DFW United Service Organizations and has assisted countless service members at the DFW USO Canteen. Councilman Sheridan takes great pride in his work visiting the Dallas VA Hospital where he works with patients specifically suffering from spinal cord injuries.  There, he brings words of encouragement, food, gifts and moments of compassion in an effort to help and ease their strife.

“I believe it is our duty as citizens to serve and give back in more than one way, and that is why I not only work with veterans but why I have chosen to work for my community and join Town Council,” stated Councilman Sheridan, “It is my hope that my reputation as a leader continues and that we can continue to have an open dialogue in which all sides are heard.”

“I’m excited to welcome Councilman Sheridan, an 18-year Town volunteer, and honored veteran, in his new role. Dennis certainly brings a wealth of knowledge to our Council!” stated Mayor Fleury.

At the May 11, 2021, Town Council meeting, the above-mentioned changes became official, and the Town of Trophy Club continues with business as usual.  “With seasons of change come opportunities to excel and that is what Trophy Club is looking to do with the direction of these dedicated leaders at the helm,” stated Steve Norwood, Town Manager.

The Town estimated it saved approximately ten thousand dollars in election costs by canceling its portion of the election this Spring. “It’s not a huge amount of money, but every bit helps, especially with some additional expenses we incurred due to last week’s significant winter storm,” said Norwood.

The next election for a Town Council position will be May 2022 when the terms end for Place 5, Michael Geraci and Place 6, Philip Shoffner.
