[ARCHIVED] Check On Your Neighbors

Neighbor Check

Your neighbors may need your help. Most of you know about the nearby Warming Stations but those who do not utilize the internet and/or have no power may not, especially the older population.

Please help spread the word by checking on your neighbors. Not only do we want people to stay as warm as possible - we want our community to recognize the signs of hypothermia so our first responders can help.

Per the CDC, elderly populations, and those with children and pets can be most at risk in cold conditions. While hypothermia is most likely in extreme cold, it can occur even above 40 degrees if a person becomes too chilled. Low body temperature affects the brain, making victims unable to think clearly or move well. People suffering hypothermia may not realize it is happening, and will not be able to do anything about it. Here are signs to look for when checking on neighbors (and if you notice any of these, CALL 911):

ADULTS:

  • Shivering
  • Exhaustion or feeling very tired
  • Confusion
  • Fumbling hands
  • Memory loss
  • Slurred speech
  • Drowsiness

BABIES:

  • bright red, cold skin
  • very low energy

The Warming Stations are open for a reason. Please check-in and use the Warming Stations if you need them! They are there to help!  We all need to help each other during these unprecedented weather events! If you need assistance with transportation getting to a Trophy Club Warming Station, please contact the TCEVA (281.543.1587) and they will be happy to assist.
