TC Fire Department Achieves An ISO 1 Class Rating

New Flash ISO Final

Trophy Club, TX (February 09, 2021) – We are excited to announce that effective March 1st, 2021, Trophy Club homeowners and local business owners will qualify to receive a lower insurance renewal rate as a result of the ISO 1 rating score earned by the Trophy Club Fire Department as the Town joins the top 1% of communities in the US for excellence in fire protection. Only 1 in 33 Texas cities have received an ISO 1 rating.

"This is a town-wide accomplishment," says Trophy Club Fire Chief J. Taylor. "It takes a collaborative effort between all town departments, and support from our City Council over a long period, to earn a perfect rating. I especially commend our staff for their dedication and commitment to provide the citizens of Trophy Club superior property fire protection."

This accomplishment was a team effort that included the Denton County Emergency Communications Dispatch Center, the Town of Trophy Club Fire Department, and the Trophy Club Municipal Utility District and with community support through funding for fire equipment and apparatus.

“This designation is quite an achievement for the Trophy Club Fire Department, but it’s our citizens and businesses that will really benefit as it will lower property insurance rates, which will put real dollars in the hands of our residents,” said Town Manager Steve Norwood.

ISO (Insurance Services Office) is a company that creates ratings based on specific criteria to determine how well equipped a fire department is to put out fires in their communities. After analyzing the data, the ISO assigns a Public Protection Classification (PPC) on a scale from 1 to 10 with 1 being the best that will earn a fire department a Class 1 rating.

To determine the ISO rating, the company conducts a field survey of the fire department using the Fire Suppression Rating Schedule (FSRS) with a 100 point scale based on four key areas that include; the fire department’s staffing; capabilities, training, and equipment, etc. (50 points); the town’s water supply/infrastructure (40 points); emergency communication systems (10 points), and community risk reduction programs (extra credit of up to 5.5 points).

“I couldn’t be more proud of our newest designation of ISO 1! This is extremely rare and shows how dedicated Trophy Club is to the safety of our residents,” said Mayor Alicia Fleury.

A “good” ISO rating may allow for Insurance companies to offer lower rates based on a fire department’s ability to extinguish fires more quickly and effectively. How ratings may impact insurance premiums will vary by insurer, as other factors may be considered with regards to fire safety.

For example, some companies will ask about a property’s proximity to a fire station or fire hydrant, as well as whether there is a fire alarm or sprinkler system. Property owners should check with their insurance companies for more information on how the improved ISO rating may help reduce costs for insurance. You will need a letter from Chief Taylor to provide to your insurance company, which is available here.

“The ISO-1 designation reflects the level of superior service our community receives and grading is determined using 50% Fire/Rescue services, 40% Water distribution systems, and 10% 9-1-1 Dispatch Communications.  These areas are evaluated only once every 10 years to determine the appropriate ISO level for communities nationwide,” said Fire Chief J. Taylor, “Making the huge jump from ISO-3 to ISO-1, Trophy Club is now in the top 1% of all communities in America. That is a credit to our Town and MUD elected officials, and Town staff for their continued effort to provide our community superior Fire and EMS services”.
