To say this is shaping up to be a "normal" school year would be a massive understatement!! With so many questions and not enough answers, we are all faced with many uncertainties coming for us and our kiddos this school year. We are all doing our best to wait, see and plan... but while we do that.... various Town departments are gearing up and getting ready for whatever may come this year.
The Town of Trophy Club is getting ready for school .... whatever that looks like! Town staff has spent time preparing for the influx of activity, schedules, and traffic that will come when In-Person learning returns. Safety and mobility remain top priorities for the Town leadership and it’s apparent with all of the school prep projects.
“In Trophy Club we are committed to working hard to keep your most prized possessions safe and mobility fluid when everyone makes their way to the classroom again,” stated Town Manager Steve Norwood.
As school is rapidly approaching, the Streets Division has been trying to keep up with when In-Person learning is going to start for NISD. As of right now, it is scheduled to start on September 14, 2020. Trophy Lakes Academy is set to begin on August 18, 2020. This is according to the latest information the Town has received.
With this information, the Town has set the flashers for groups 2 and 3, which are located on Trophy Club Dr., Trophy Lake Dr., and Village Trl to begin on August 14, 2020. The remaining flashers, which are in group 1, are set to begin on September 10, 2020. The Streets Division will make sure that any changes made by either NISD or the state, are reflected on the calendar schedule for the flashers. Here are the details of how the flashers will run for testing, prior to the start of school:
- August 14 – Groups 2 and 3, Normal Schedule
- August 17 – Groups 2 and 3, Early Release Schedule
- August 18 – Groups 2 and 3, Start of School and running normal Schedule, following NISD calendar
- September 10 – Group 1, Normal Schedule
- September 11 - Group 1, Early Release Schedule
- September 14 – Group 1, Start of In-Person learning for NISD
While the Streets Division is hard at work, the Police and Crossing Guard Program is also gearing up for when In-Person school season starts. The School Crossing Guards are dedicated to providing safe bicycle and pedestrian routes to and from school, for elementary, middle, and high school-aged children. The Crossing Guard Program in Trophy Club currently has nine crossing guards covering posts at four schools throughout the Town. The Crossing Guards have polished up on training that included essential crossing guard procedures, information on the health and welfare of guards, proper equipment and uniforms as well as a refresher on what resources are available from the Police and Fire departments to help the guards ensure the children’s safety. Currently, the Town of Trophy Club is looking to add to its Crossing Guard Team! “The Crossing Guards are a critical component to the Police Departments’ child safety program”, said Chief Arata. “So during school zone hours slow down and watch for kids and follow the directions of the crossing guards.”
As the Town of Trophy Club prepares for what this new school year will look like, we hope our residents are also prepped and ready! If not, Hurry up and complete those preparations so you can enjoy these last few weeks of summer in style. The Town Community pool is hailing you to enjoy her refreshing fun asap, HOWEVER, due to the fact that In-Person school won’t start until September 14, 2020, they are extending their season for residents to enjoy.
