Trophy Club, TX (August 01, 2020) – Too often in some communities, people equate police officers with ‘enforcement,’ such as receiving a speeding ticket, arresting someone, or worse.
Recently there has been an increase in negativity directed toward law enforcement nationally, there is a need to show law enforcement officers that our residents recognize the difficult and sometimes impossible career they have chosen, all for their public service to our community.
In light of what is occurring across the nation regarding police officers, Mr. Danny Mayer, a longtime town resident, proposed a recognition from the Mayor and Town Council for the month of August as Police Appreciation Month in Trophy Club.
The Trophy Club Police Department serves approximately 13,000 citizens and has been recognized by the Texas Crime Prevention Association for its efforts in crime prevention and community involvement.
Town Manager Steve Norwood stated, “this is important because when working together, a community and its police department can change the culture for the better, improve relationships and attitudes, and make a difference.”
He went on to say, “The TCPD feels the pride and support and love from this community for a job well done or for saving a life. Too often the negatives are
highlighted and showcased, and the heroic or compassionate deeds are buried on the back page. But a community working in concert with its police department knows the value and the good that comes from it.”
Since its formation in 1990, the Trophy Club Police Department has provided traditional law enforcement services to our community and has also provided innovative approaches to community issues through partnerships with various organizations and problem-solving activities.
Chief Patrick Arata said, “We are extremely blessed to have a town that supports us and is willing to emphasize our efforts for a whole month. At the TCPD, we are constantly pushing ourselves to find the best methods of interacting with citizens in a way that results in positive outcomes, as well as aiding in the creation of favorable viewpoints towards law enforcement from the members of our community! “
Mayor Nick Sanders issued and read into the official record a Proclamation declaring the month of August as Police Appreciation Month in Trophy Club. He said, in part, “The Town of Trophy Club has always been proud of our police department for their unwavering dedication to service for our community…We express our unending gratitude to our Trophy Club Police Officers…particularly this year, given the challenges they encounter daily with the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Those residents who appreciate law enforcement and are discouraged about the negative attention being given to law enforcement are encouraged to take time during the month of August to show their support. Our residents can show their support in a number of ways:
- Wear blue clothing in support of law enforcement.
- Send a card of support to your local police department or state agency.
- Share a story about a positive law enforcement experience on social media.
- Ask your children to write letters in support of law enforcement.
- Organize an event or a rally in support of your law enforcement officers.
- Advertise support through local media outlets/billboards.
- Most importantly, if you see a police officer, thank a police officer.
