November Thanks and Remembrance

Posted on November 3, 2021 at 12:31 PM by Jill Lind

Happy November Trophy Club!

As we head into this month, it is certainly one to reflect on the things we are thankful for! Things I know I am thankful for this month include; a healthy fiscal budget for the year ahead, the new Town Council leadership taking their place at the dais, our dedicated community veterans who have served to provide us our freedoms, and of course the holidays themselves which hopefully everyone is able to spend with their loved ones.

Election InformationAs we know, in August, Trophy Club Town Councilmembers Gregory Wilson (Place 2) and Michael Geraci (Place 5) both resigned from Town Council resulting in the calling of a Special Election November 02, 2021. While I was happy for both gentlemen and their endeavors, it was bittersweet to say goodbye as they both had such an impact during their time at the dais. Thanks to those who ran and congratulations to those who won. I am looking forward to having both Jeff Beach and LuAnne Oldham on Council. This is a great way to go into the new fiscal year, with new ideas and new perspectives to help us on the path of success.

Last month was the start of our new FISCAL year. The FY 22 Budget is the collective efforts of all departments to meet the clear vision for our community, as laid out by your Town Council and you, our residents, as reflected in the 2021 Citizens’ Survey.  You’ve spoken and we’ve responded by maintaining the high level of service that you’ve come to know and expect while holding our current tax rate steady, enabling us to focus on the long-term health and stability of our Town’s economic position.

Veterans Day Celebration News FlashPlease join us as we honor those who have served in the US Armed Forces at our Veteran's Day Celebration on November 11, from 11am-12pm at our Military Veteran's Memorial Park, courtesy of the Metroport Veterans Association and GallantFew, Inc. Veterans Day is a time to respect and celebrate the people in your life who have served in the military and have been discharged. It’s different from other holidays that focus on military members like Memorial Day, Armed Services Day, Women Veterans Day, and international holidays like Armistice Day and Remembrance Day.

In 1863, Abraham Lincoln proclaimed Thanksgiving as “the last Thursday of November next” and implored “the all mighty hand to heal the wounds of the nation and to restore it, as soon as may be consistent with Divine purposes, to the full enjoyment peace, harmony, tranquility and union.” I hope you remember these words as you all have a very Happy Thanksgiving! A reminder that all Trophy Club Town offices will be closed beginning on Wednesday, November 24th at 12 PM through Friday, November 26th, in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. Police, Fire, and Emergency Medical Services will remain in operation at all times. In addition, there will also be NO collection of trash/recycle/bulk materials on Friday, November 26th. The weekly schedule will be delayed by one day, with all collections being completed on Saturday, November 27th.

Happy Thanksgiving!
