THURSDAY 03/10/2022 - 3:00 PM:
There continues to be the potential for light wintry precipitation on Friday across portions of North and Central Texas. Recent model guidance has increased confidence regarding possible travel impacts along and just south of the Red River, where a Winter Weather Advisory is now in effect for Friday.
● A cold front will move through tonight, and temperatures will drop to or below freezing by Friday morning across the northwest half of the region.
● An upper level disturbance will generate light precipitation in the cold air behind the front.
○ Rain may briefly transition to light freezing rain before changing to light sleet and snow.
● The highest potential for travel impacts will be along and north of Highway 380 where a
Winter Weather Advisory is in effect.
○ A glazing of ice and a tenth to half an inch of a combination of sleet/snow are expected.
○ Icy bridges and overpasses are expected. Slick spots on roads will also be possible.
● Light accumulations are possible as far south as a line from Goldthwaite to DFW to Paris.
○ A glazing of ice and up to a tenth of an inch of sleet/snow is possible.
○ Slick spots on bridges and overpasses are possible in these areas.
● Strong winds will result in wind chills in the teens and twenties on Friday and between 5 and 15 degrees Friday night.
● Temperatures Saturday morning will be in the 20s with wind chills in the teens and 20s.
● Sunny skies and above freezing temperatures are expected Saturday. Therefore, conditions will improve rapidly by midday Saturday if any snow-covered roads develop.

THURSDAY 02/24/2022 - 6:00 AM:
Freezing drizzle and freezing rain will be widespread this morning making for icy and hazardous travel areawide. The good news is that the precipitation ends from west to east midday and into the afternoon hours with a slow improvement to travel conditions thereafter.
Even if temps don't get above freezing this afternoon in your area, we will still see some erosion of the ice as it will slowly dry up once precipitation stops. Bridges and overpasses will be the last to improve and may stay icy into Friday morning.

WEDNESDAY 02/23/2022 - 3:11 PM:
Classes canceled Thursday, February 24 - Northwest ISD will cancel classes across all schools tomorrow, February 24, because of inclement weather and anticipated poor road conditions. Additionally, the district will either cancel or reschedule all activities scheduled for tomorrow.
Roads are expected to improve after tomorrow, and we hope to resume classes on Friday, February 25. Because NISD has already used two bad weather days and has adjusted the calendar accordingly, they will work with the state to hopefully submit a calendar waiver request for tomorrow’s closure. This would mean the existing calendar changes would be the only changes required, as TEA did not recognize the COVID staffing shortage as a qualifying factor for a waiver.
Please stay safe and warm as they look forward to the return of students after this closure.
