Expect additional traffic congestion around TMS November 3rd — 6th

Texas Motor Speedway (TMS) will be hosting its annual fall NASCAR race for the cup during early November. The race is scheduled to occur from Thursday, November 3rd until Sunday, November 6th, 2016.  The average fall race brings in approximately 150,000 race fans.

Presently, there are events/races scheduled for all days of the event which means traffic will be very congested from normal traffic patterns.  Since the fall race attracts the largest amount of patrons to Texas Motor Speedway there are numerous events  occurring during this race weekend to include a musical concert.  I will have more detailed information in the coming weeks.

For the residents who live in close proximity to the Speedway, your best course of action is to avoid the Speedway during this time if at all possible.  If you cannot avoid traveling in this area, use the plan, “West is Best”.  What this means is  try and utilize routes that are to the west of the Speedway and NOT traveling near the intersection of IH-35W and Highway 114 or past the Speedway itself.  If you reside west of TMS, please utilize Highway 114 to travel to the west.  You can take Highway 114 to Rhome and utilize US Highway 287 to go to Decatur or Fort Worth.  If you reside east of TMS, try to avoid Highway 114 and utilize Litsey Road to travel either to IH-35W or Business 114 in Roanoke.

Thursday, November 3, 2016 - There are no scheduled events except practice at TMS.  Be advised the NASCAR crowd usually begins arriving this day and traffic will be congested more than normal.

Friday, November 4, 2016 - There is an evening race that starts at approximately 1949 hours.  The FWPD Traffic Division does NOT anticipate a contraflow of traffic INTO the venue.  However, following the race there will be a mini-contraflow of traffic for outbound traffic that should start around 2145 hours and last approximately 90 minutes or until 2330 hours.

Saturday, November 5, 2016 - There is an afternoon race that starts at approximately 1416 hours.  The FWPD Traffic Division does plan on using a mini-contraflow of traffic INTO the venue.  This is situational and dependent upon traffic flow and congestion.  There will be a mini-contraflow of traffic after the race for outbound traffic that should start around 1645 hours and last approximately 2 hours or until 1900 hours.

Sunday, November 6, 2016 - There is an afternoon race that starts at approximately 1308 hours.  The FWPD Traffic Division does plan on using a contraflow for traffic before and after the race.  This could start as early as 0900 hours and last until race starts and then when the race finishes at approximately 1630 hours and last approximately 4 hours or until 2100 hours.
