At the February 9th meeting, the Town Council proclaimed February 16, 2016 as ‘Dennis McCreary Day’ in Trophy Club. Mr. McCreary recently retired from the Northwest Independent School District (NISD) as the Assistant Superintendent for Facilities, Planning & Construction. Dennis completed 16 years of service with NISD and 30 years of service in Public Education.
Dennis McCreary embraced and led NISD’s goal to provide premier facilities and support systems that enhance a positive learning environment and foster student and community pride. During his tenure, he guided a district and community-wide philosophy shift to instill pride and value in school design, appearance, maintenance, and structure as a positive contribution to student learning.
As a fast-growth district, Dennis successfully managed rapid increases in student enrollment. Student enrollment almost quadrupled during his tenure, increasing from 5,400 to 21,000 and reaching a percentage growth peak of 19 percent in 2006.
Dennis assisted in the successful passage of four bond referendums: $182.2 million in 2001, $224.5 million in 2005, $260 million in 2008, and $255 million in 2012. He oversaw the construction of 10 elementary schools, two middle schools, two high schools, and four district facilities, including the NISD Kelly W. Box Agriculture Sciences Center, the NISD Stadium and renovations and additions at 22 schools.
Dennis implemented a Long-Range Plan, which included a schedule of building maintenance and new facilities to accommodate student growth, in addition to overseeing the implementation of NISD’s first energy management program.
During his tenure, Dennis managed student enrollment and attendance zones, demographic projections, maintenance, new construction and renovations and energy management, as well as outsourced operations such as transportation, food service, custodial services, and landscape services.
