The
Fire/EMS Department was initially established in 1982 as an
all-volunteer organization and has grown to include nine professional
Firefighter/Paramedics and one professional Firefighter/EMT
in addition to its complement of certified volunteers and
part-time Firefighter/Paramedics.
The
Trophy Club fire station is located at 100 Municipal Drive
in Trophy Club, and staffed 24 hours a day seven days a week
to provide Fire and Emergency Medical Services to our citizens.
Firefighters
have both an Engine and an Aerial apparatus each capable of
pumping 1500 gallons of water per minute for fire extinguishment.
In addition, the Engine is equipped with a full range of rescue
tools.
For
grass or brush fires and off road rescues, firefighters also
have available a 4-wheel drive Brush/Rescue Unit capable of
pumping 250 gallons of water per minute.
For
Emergency Medical Calls, the Trophy Club Fire/EMS Department
also has an MICU (Medical Intensive Care Unit) Ambulance with
advanced life support capabilities that bring state of the
art medical care to our citizens even before they reach the
hospital.
Child
Safety Seats
As a parent and a Firefighter/Paramedic, safety is always
one of our biggest priorities. One of the greatest priorities
with a child is to always ensure they are riding safely in
the vehicle. Most parents rely on common sense when installing
child car seats and assume the child is safe in the seat,
which may be putting your child at risk every time they are
placed in the car.
Last
Spring, two Trophy Club firefighters attended a Child Passenger
Safety class to obtain a certification which allows them to
correctly install a child car seat. The one week class consisted
of both a hands-on practical of installing all different types
of child seats and classroom education. These technicians
had to pass a course that was developed by the National Highway
Traffic Safety Administration in the mid 1990s. The certifying
body is Safe Kids Worldwide. Technicians must keep their certification
up to date with an industry that changes frequently. Technicians
do this by attending courses for Continuing Education and
by recertifying every two years. One of the most critical
things learned in the class was that 4 out of 5 car seats
are installed incorrectly.
It
is our objective to ensure that all children in our community
are riding safely. The Trophy Club Fire Department has made
this possible by allowing us to apply our knowledge and skills
and check the safety of car seats at the Trophy Club Fire
Station. By using a combination of information from the car
seat owner’s manual, the vehicle owner’s manual and our training,
we can accurately install car seats for children of all ages.
The
Fire Department encourages you to call or stop by the fire
station to make an appointment with Matt Tackett or Brian
Peters, to evaluate your current car seat(s) or assist you
with installing a new one. They can give you helpful car safety
advice that will enhance the survivability rate of your child
in the event of an automobile accident.
To
make an appointment or to ask any questions, please call the
fire station at 682-831-4650 and ask for Matt Tackett or Brian
Peters. Ride Safe!
