New Council Member Takes Seat

Council Sept 2019 News Flash

The September Special Election has come and gone in Trophy Club and with them comes a new face to serve the Trophy Club residents. Filling the seat of Place 4 is a new but not unknown Trophy Club advocate, Mr. Karl Monger. Mr. Monger is the Founder and Executive Director of GallantFew, Inc., a nonprofit helping military veteran’s transition from active duty to civilian lives of hope and purpose.  He is a retired US Army Major who served in infantry and Ranger assignments.  He is an author, award-winning video producer, and certified Burris Functional Emotional FitnessTM practitioner.  He has lived in Trophy Club since 2013 and has been a volunteer on the Trophy Club Crime Control and Prevention District Board since 2018. He is married to Sara and has two daughters, two grandsons, and two dogs. Mayor Sanders noted, “I’m confident that with Mr. Monger’s service to our country, he will be an excellent representative for our citizen’s and provide leadership to the entire Council”.

CM Monger Swear In 3Mr. Monger has stated that his priorities while serving on Council include many various initiatives. “The Northwest Metroport Chamber of Commerce predicts that over the next twenty years the 114/170/377 area will be the geographical center of the DFW metroplex. That’s a lot of growth and with it will come many challenges. I will work to ensure our law enforcement and first responders are well-trained and have the resources they need to support our safety. I will support existing projects to ensure they maximize value and benefit for the Town, and I will work to continue developing relationships with neighboring communities, civic clubs such as Rotary and the Chamber of Commerce. I will listen to the concerns of my fellow residents and bring them to Town management for resolution. Let’s work together to improve each other and our Town, not tear each other apart.”

The Place 4 seat was on the September ballot by way of a Special Election due to the exit of Mr. Tim Kurtz, who left the seat in the Spring of 2019 thanks to tremendous success with his business expansion taking off quicker than expected. “Thank you for allowing me to serve the Town for the time that I did.  It was a great experience in my life and I hope I added a little value in the last few years.” Stated Mr. Kurtz, who was present at the Council Meeting July 23rd, where he was recognized for his time as a sitting Council Member.  Mayor Nick Sanders stated, “We were quite honored to have Mr. Kurtz serve on Council”.  Councilman Jensen added, “Tim Kurtz’s business insight will be missed but I believe Karl will step into Council and be ready to jump in on day one”.

In addition to Mr. Monger joining Council, new Trophy Club boards and commissions positions will be appointed at the September 24th, 2019 Council meeting.  These important committees are comprised of resident volunteers who advise the Town on current issues and assist the Council in policy development and administration of services. Members of a board or commission must be a resident and a qualified voter of the Town of Trophy Club at the time of his or her appointment.

Councilwoman Alicia Fleury added, "Service above self is rewarding in so many ways.  I invite our residents to join us in working with each other, our businesses, our schools and with our staff and elected officials to make Trophy Club the best it can be."
